I paint from observation and memory. A sense of nostalgia influences my selection of subject matter; this sense is further reinforced by a traditional palette. My past explorations into the aesthetic and emotional potential of a monochromatic image continue to inform my work as I reconstruct both emotional and physical spaces through the lens of memory. New figurative pieces populate these spaces with family members and cultural icons. Using a variety of sources - including memory, family photographs, music, and invention - I pursue a greater understanding while attempting to reconcile the privilege of maturity with the eventuality of decomposition.
